The ARC-Irene Campus is situated about 25 km south of Pretoria adjacent to the village of Irene in the suburb of Centurion. The campus houses the Head Office of the ARC-Animal Improvement Institute (ARC-AII), as well as the ARC-Animal Nutrition and Animal Products Institute (ARC-ANPI). The area has a typical Highveld climate (altitude 1 523m), with hot days and cool nights in summer and moderate winter days with cold nights. Since their founding in 1962 as the Animal and Dairy Science Research Institute (ADSRI), within the Department of Agriculture, both institutes have gained recognition world-wide for their role in animal science and in the development of the animal industry in South Africa. The primary aim of the ARC-AII is to assist in the establishment of biologically and economically efficient animals, while the ARC-ANPI is responsible for research into and development of feed, food and animal products. The ultimate goal is to transfer appropriate technology to the end user, to enable livestock and related industries to enhance the quality of life of all people in South Africa. Contact details
