JointEze Irene Ultra powered by Modern AthleteSunday, 5 April 2020
Labelled as THE Comrades Marathon Qualifier of 2020, the JointEze Irene Ultra powered by Modern Athlete will hit the streets of the Irene and Centurion suburbs on Sunday 5 April 2020. Entries Closing on Thursday 22nd March 2020!
This is the perfect qualifying race, firstly due to the 48km distance counting for the 48-50km category for Comrades, giving you a 2km advantage. And secondly because it is timed by ChampionChip using mat-to-mat timing, which means no time loss, and automatic time submission to the Comrades entries database. Runners will require a sub 5:50 run to secure their Comrades qualifier. The course is also helpful, featuring no major climbs so runners can attain the times they need, while the event date is perfectly placed to allow plenty of recovery time ahead of Comrades training. Whether you want to secure a Comrades qualifier, or just improve your seeding, this is the race for you! Note the Ultra is capped at 4000 runners, so enter now! The JointEze Irene Half Marathon powered by Modern Athlete is also great for working up to an Ultra, or push your limits to see where your training is. Perfect for the whole family, we also have a 5km fun run, which takes a safe and secure route through the ARC Campus, great for prams or baby joggers. The Ultra FormatThe Ultra format gives maximum benefit to the runners. The Ultra Marathon, over 48 kilometres, must be completed under 5 hours and 50 minutes (5:50) by those hoping to qualify. This race is perfectly timed, and allows qualifiers to comfortably accumulate essential mileage before the traditional taper period.
The RouteThe route through Irene’s suburbs and down to Fountains Valley and back has no significant climbs allowing runners to achieve better times. The 48km along with a 21.1km will start at 05:30 on Sunday 5 April 2020 at the Irene Agricultural Research Campus.
5kmThe 5km fun-run takes place entirely in the Irene Agricultural Research Council campus, making it well-sheltered for younger runners. The 5 km, which can also be entered for on the day, starts at 06:00 and doesn’t require a ChampionChip or temporary licence. There is a big picnic area, enclosed kiddies entertainment area with supervision, exhibitions and food stalls will keep the non-runners busy.
