Be Serious About Your R(f)un - Prepare Physically and Mentally!!
The human body can physically be prepared for approximately 60 km, thereafter it’s your head, and not your legs, that makes the difference in Ultra running. Getting your thinking right is just as important as being fit enough for an endurance race such as Comrades, or any long-distance and extreme running events.
Irene Athletics Club believes in holistic training. In addition to our regular physical training sessions and professional assistance, we provide our members mental training advice free of charge. For this purpose we hold a series of three Information Sessions with a Professional Sports Psychologist each year. These sessions are usually scheduled during the build-up period prior to Comrades, and each session will delve deeper into the topic of mental preparation.
